A Personal Update on Your Church Is Too Small

Cover to Your Church_ Readers of this blog are aware that my new book, Your Church Is Too Small, will soon be released. The formal date is the First of April, but copies will actually be delivered to Zondervan on Friday, March 5. I will get my copies the following week. I can’t begin to express how thrilled I am to finally see this book in print.

I have written or edited twelve books but never have I been filled with such hope and excitement about a book and what it represents as this one. Simply put, “The vision God gave me for the last stretch of my life is in this book.” I hope it is not my last book, since there are many things related to this book I would like to explore in greater depth. Two follow-up books are in my mind at this moment. One book, on the relational Trinity, seems to press on me at the moment. I want to show how this ancient understanding of God is vital to recovering the mission of the church in the unity Jesus prayed for in John 17. Second, I want to write a book on a core value of the kingdom of Christ and his mission: friendship. I have learned a lot about friendship over sixty years and now feel ready to write about it with some degree of serious reflection. One of the clear evidences of the breakdown of life in the church today is the absence of real and abiding friendships.

But back to the present book: Your Church Is Too Small. There are several ways that you can follow this book. First, if you use Facebook then become a fan of the book on the Facebook fan page: Your Church Is Too Small. Daily updates are posted there and a community of people are interacting about the book. Second, go to: www.yourchurchistoosmall.com. Here you will get hundreds of pages of additional content, over time, and new information about events related to the book, both here in Chicago and in a city near you (hopefully).

I will be posting quite a bit about the book on this blog in the coming weeks but I will continue to write more blogs on a wide array of topics at this author spot. Blogs that are particularly related to the book will be posted on the site www.yourchurchistoosmall.com.

Last week I recorded 30 new video clips, anywhere from 2 to 4 minutes in length. These will also go on the book site and on You Tube and Facebook. We hope to post one new video with me talking about some idea in the book every week over the next year or so.

If you want to buy the book it is available from Amazon.com. If you click through to the Amazon site, using any of the links in this blog to get there, then ACT 3 gets a small amount of your purchase price.  Use this feature to order the book and help out the mission in the process.
