The following letter appeared in my box this week. I think it implores those who value unborn life to respond. I did. I hope you will too.

Dear Friends,

Once again our values are under intense attack from radical liberal feminists. Only this time they are venturing where they never should have gone.

Football. And not just any football game. The Super Bowl.

This week, the liberal feminist organization, National Organization for Women (NOW), launched an all-out effort attacking a pro-life ad that will be in the Super Bowl commercial line-up. The ad, produced by our good friends at Focus on the Family, tells the story of Pam Tebow's decision to continue with her pregnancy against her doctor's advice and give birth to the Heisman trophy winning Florida Gator Quarterback, Tim Tebow.

Tebow NOW's call to take this advertisement off the air is their attempt at shutting down the Christian witness of Tim Tebow and his mother. Standing by their convictions, the Tebows made this ad to share their experience of accepting God's plan for their lives and experiencing the ultimate gift of Life.

Shouldn't the "pro-choice" position respect Pam Tebow's decision to choose Life and then tell others about that choice? What is the worst case scenario in allowing this ad to air? Women are exposed to an example of sacrifice for the sake of an unborn child.

The fact of the matter here is that they are attacking more than just Tim Tebow and his mother for having the courage of their convictions to share the positive message of Life—they are attacking you and me, and the values we stand for.

We can't allow this to go unanswered. When someone this prominent is willing to put himself out there with a positive message about Life, we need to support him.

Click here and go to our page, where you can send your name and a message of encouragement to Tim Tebow and his family.

Let's show Tim Tebow that the pro-life movement is standing behind him and thank him for sharing his mom's beautiful testimony on choosing Life.

God bless,

I support the right of this group to do the ad at the Super Bowl. I am pro-life and am glad that Tim Tebow wants to be a pro-life spokesperson. But I do kind of wonder why so much has been put into this ad. Tim Tebow was born in the Philippines, not the US. Abortion was illegal when he was born and continues to be illegal now. But there are still about 400,000 abortions a year there. According to government data, 12 percent of all maternal deaths are due to botched abortions. I fully support the pro-life message and their right to share it, just not sure this should be the message we are fighting for.

I’m pro-life and a feminist. I also think Focus on the Family has the right to air the ad, and that those who don’t support it have the right to protest it. The message to “choose life” b/c your child may be a future famous athlete is perhaps not the best, in my opinion. Focusing on the inherent value of every child would be better. Not to mention helping women and men gain access to birth control, medical care, support after their children are born, etc.

I know one of the controversial issues surrounding that in my denomination’s circle is CBS’s decision not to air a United Church of Christ ad in 2004 because it touched on the controversial issue of homosexuality and was an ‘advocacy’ ad (http://money.cnn.com/2004/12/01/news/fortune500/jesus_ad_ban/). I realize there might have been some technical differences in the political context, but the selectivity of the network is confusing to some people. I personally find many problems with the UCC ad, but I can see why some have raised questions in this situation.
